Texas Tech’s co-ed cheerleaders have a long tradition of winning national titles. They were in the top three again this year at the NCA & NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Co-Ed Cheer Squad
The Co-Ed Cheer Squad is one of the powerhouses of collegiate cheerleading. They are known for their amazing stunts, tumbling, and game day performance!
Texas Tech’s Co-Ed Cheer Squad is made up of male and female cheerleaders. They perform at football games, men’s and women’s basketball games, and other university events throughout the year.
They also travel to postseason bowl games, Big 12 tournaments, and NCAA/NIT tournament games. They are a great addition to the Texas Tech University community and serve as an ambassador for the school.
This program is a fantastic opportunity for high school cheerleaders who are looking to experience college level stunts, tumbling, and gameday performance! The Co-Ed Cheer Squad is open to any high school student who wishes to become a part of the Texas Tech Spirit Program.

TTU’s Co-Ed Cheer Squad has consistently finished in the top three at the National Collegiate Cheerleaders Association (NCA) and National Dance Alliance (NDA) College National Championship. In 2019, they won first place in the Co-Ed Cheer category and second in the Pom category at the competition in Daytona Beach, Florida.
All-Girl Cheer Squad
The texas tech basketball cheerleaders are proud of their school spirit and are dedicated to representing the university on the national stage. Their year-round commitment includes attending every practice, cheering at home football and basketball games, participating in CUSA competitions, promoting the University and serving as ambassadors for Texas Tech.
Cheerleading is a great way to develop leadership skills, teamwork and dedication to your school. It is a good choice for many students because it allows them to focus on their academics, participate in internships or work part-time.
There are over 250 colleges that offer cheerleading at the NCAA Division 1 level, and there are also competitive programs at the NAIA and junior college levels. However, cheer colleges can differ widely from one another, so it’s important for student-athletes to thoroughly research the program they want to attend and determine if it fits their needs.
Typically, colleges will have coed or all-girl teams. These may have similar practices, but different schedules and more intense training.
They look for well-rounded people who have a strong physical physique and are flexible with movement, especially dance. They also want to see if you have the proper skills for tumbling, stunting and jumping.
Their Pom squad is highly selective, with only 16 members on the roster. They compete at the NCAA, so they are looking for those with experience in dance and tumbling.
Tryouts
Texas Tech basketball cheerleaders represent the University at many athletic events and public appearances. They are responsible for greeting fans, shaking hands, posing for pictures, and promoting positive sportsmanship. Squad members have the opportunity to travel to post season football bowl games, Big 12 tournament basketball games, and NCAA/NIT basketball tournament games.
Tryouts are open to current Texas Tech students, including incoming Freshman and Transfer Students who meet all tryout requirements. Graduate students are also encouraged to attend.
All-Girl Cheer consists of talented female cheerleaders who compete in STUNT (a competitive team sport that replaces crowd-leading with partner stunts and pyramids). The squad performs at home football, women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, and selected other Texas Tech sporting events.
Co-Ed Cheer consists of male and female cheerleaders who stunt together. Both squads will receive scholarship awards and may be invited to participate in national competitions.
To attend tryouts, participants must be enrolled in at least 9 credit hours as a TTU student and meet all tryout requirements. During the tryout process, candidates will be assessed by the coach and their final position on the team will be announced after tryouts are complete.

The Texas Tech basketball cheerleaders receive a wide variety of benefits from our many generous sponsors. Our sponsor partners provide scholarships, support for out-of-town games and academic tutoring, on campus meal plans, practice attire, warm-ups, and accessories.
Our sponsors are also responsible for ensuring that our members have a positive experience as student leaders. They offer a wide range of activities to help our members build friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.
Cheerleaders are proud to have sponsors who support their efforts to represent the university in a professional way while giving back to the community. Their donations make it possible for the cheerleaders to attend national competitions and have other special events.
Scholarship funding for college cheerleaders is often complicated, because there is no set standard. Funding depends on how cheer is set up at each school, and it is not governed by the NCAA.
In most cases, cheerleaders are eligible for a leadership scholarship to cover costs associated with participating on the squad. This can be a $1,000 per academic year award that includes waiver of out-of-state tuition fees, on-campus eating establishments, and transportation to away games.

This can be as simple as asking families to submit a “spirit selfie” when they’re wearing their T-shirts off campus or setting up a DIY photo booth at an event where you ask everyone to wear their gear.
